RK Radio

Growing up listening to their parents music, RK Radio is steeped in the rock music heritage of the 60’s. As most of this music begins to fade from memory and from the airwaves, they’re committed to keeping alive this glorious period in rock history. With hits spanning the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s, they hope to take you on a ride like no one else.

Formed in 1996, RK Radio is a husband and wife duo consisting of bass and guitar. They both sing and swap between lead and harmony, allowing an expanded range of songs to perform. Utilizing software, they have created digital instruments to fill out their sound. Whether it is drums, orchestration, piano, organ, brass, or almost any other instrument you can think, it allows the audience to hear the song as close to the original as possible. Because of this, they utilize a much smaller footprint than a normal band and are able to tightly control volume. With almost 30 years performing together, the attention to detail and commitment to quality shine through in every show.

Born in Tacoma, WA, Kelly started playing guitar at the age of six. She would borrow her brother’s guitar whenever he wasn’t around. She had her first paying gig at the age of 16 and has been going strong ever since. Immersed in the classic blues and R&B of the 50’s and the San Francisco sound of the 60’s, Kelly has a style inspired by the great guitarists of that time. From Earl Hooker to Jerry Garcia to Sam Andrew, there’s a little bit of old soul in everything she plays.

Also from Tacoma, Russ started playing piano in grade school. After switching to trumpet in middle school, he soon found an appreciation for blues and jazz. He began learning guitar in 1990, but switched to bass soon after meeting Kelly. With an extremely varied background in genres, Russ has rooted his playing style in being a strong rhythm foundation for those around him.
